Hiking Tip: Wild Water Trail . by Augarten Hotel Neustift:

Today we would like to give you a very special hiking tip in the Stubai Alps. An absolute MUST during your next vacation with us at Berg Genuss Hotel Neustift: a visit to the WildeWasser Weg.

Experience the element of water in all its facets in all three stages of the popular hiking trail:
You will find small floodplains & alluvial plains or you can watch thundering waterfalls and inhale the wonderful fresh air right at the falls. Further up you will marvel at a turquoise blue mountain lake and shimmering glacier fields. An experience of a special kind with an ascent of 1,250 meters in altitude and about 22 km in length.
At the end of the first stage you will be rewarded with one of the greatest highlights. The GRAWA waterfall. With 85 m probably the widest waterfall in the Eastern Alps!

What do you think of the WildeWasserWeg?

The starting and end point of this exciting tour is the WildeWasserArena at the quarry in Ranalt. This is about 15 minutes away by car from our Berg Genuss Hotel Neustift.

In the WildeWasserArena you can park in the parking lot along the main road, which is signposted “WildeWasserWeg”.

Tips & info about the WildeWasserWeg:

The WildeWasserWeg itself leads you about 1,250 m uphill to the impressive Sulzenau Glacier. For this reason, we recommend you to do this tour during the summer months: that is, between June and September.
What we particularly like about the WildeWasserWeg is that you have the opportunity to decide for yourself how far you want to go. On each of the 3 stages you will be rewarded with a special highlight at the finish.
Follow the 3 stages on the interactive map:

WildeWasserWeg – Stage 1:

At the beginning, the trail leads you along the banks of the Ruetz through the spectacular Ruetz cataract. Afterwards you will reach the Tschangelair Alm and the mighty Grawa waterfall, the highlight of this stage.

WildeWasserWeg – Stage 2:

In serpentines the path runs over the steep Almsteig. Here you should wear very good shoes and be very surefooted, as the ground is rather wet. After about 1 hour you will reach Sulzenegg. From here it is quite flat through a valley basin to the idyllically situated Sulzenau-Alm (open between mid May & end of October, http://www.sulzenau-alm.at/). On this route you will enjoy a fantastic glacier view the whole time.
But go a little further here, as the highlight of this stage now awaits you: the base of the Sulzenau Falls. This is probably the most powerful of the 3 waterfalls.
From here you reach the Sulzenau hut (mid-June to mid-September, https://www.sulzenauhuette.at/) in comfortable serpentines.

WildeWasserWeg – Stage 3:

From the Sulzenau Hut, the trail leads to the foot of the Sulzenau Farmer. At the end of the WildeWasserWeg you will reach the glacier lake and the glacier gate at the foot of the Sulzenau glacier. This is located at about 2500 m above sea level and is an impressive natural spectacle that you should not miss. So enjoy the magnificent view of the jagged towers of the glacier break, the many small waterfalls and the snow dome at the top of the Zuckerhütl. The Zuckerhütl is the highest mountain in the Stubai Alps.

What else is important?

In order to cover the entire distance of 22 km (which is a walking time of about 9 ½ hours) without any problems, you should be in pretty good shape. If you already wanted to prepare for this tour from home, why not check out the different articles on our blog for the series “Helga’s Workout for at home”.

Return along the same route until you arrive back at the WildeWasserArena.
Together with our little one, we visited the WildeWasserWeg this spring and took some photos for you.

“We at Berg Genuss Hotel Neustift – wish you a fantastic day on the WildeWasserWeg!”
