Hiking tip: natural scenery chicken game . by Hotel Neustift:
Today we give you an extraordinary hiking tip for sporty active and nature lovers among you. An absolute HIGHLIGHT for your next vacation with us at Berg.Genuss.Hotel Neustift!
Everything you need to know about the hike:
A very special circular hike via the Brandstattalm to the natural site of Hühnerspiel. The descent continues to the Milderaun-Alm, back via the Auffangalm to the starting point at the Josef parking lot.
Experience the magnificent mountain panorama and enjoy the tranquility far from the mountain tourists. The trail between the Brandstatt and Milderaun alp is an absolute insider tip, as it is not a much frequented hiking trail.
Below the imposing Brenner peak, the artistic and somewhat playful natural setting was created – a plain where the pink-looking alpine roses and blueberry bushes grow. While sitting on the carousel-like rest bench, you can enjoy a unique 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountain landscape.
The view extends out of the valley to the nearby Inn Valley and inland to the ice giants of the Stubai Valley glaciers. Simply dreamlike! You have to see it.
Our favorite round trip:
For the most beautiful route tour – at the same time also the longest and most difficult – you need a walking time of about 6 hours. You will cover 1,100 meters in altitude.
The starting point is the parking lot “Josef” in the Oberberg valley. From there you can reach the Brandstattalm via the forest path in about 1 hour. Continue on a hiking trail that leads directly from the Brandstattalm in the direction of the Seblasspitze. After about 20 minutes, the trail branches off to the left in the direction of Hühnerspiel.
Then it goes another 1.5 hours with a magnificent panorama over the “Madlasböden” to the natural site.
The descent leads somewhat steeply in about 1 hour to the Milderaun-Alm. From there, continue along the forest path in the direction of Auffangalm in about 1 hour. From the Auffangalm the forest road leads back to the parking lot “Josef”.

There are 2 other ways to reach the Hühnerspiel directly via the Milderaun-Alm. Depending on your condition, time and weather, we will be happy to advise you on which option to take.
What else is important?
For this tour a good condition and stable mountain weather is a prerequisite. Of course, you should also wear appropriate footwear and carry enough water with you.
Where does the name chicken game actually come from?
The place got its name because of the animals living here: Always at the mating season (which is between the end of March and the beginning of June), this area is the personal playground for the local gamecocks. These are also called black cocks in our country.
As early as dawn, the dark-colored males wander around the mating ground. Their breast is iridescent steel-blue colored, the strong red roses over their eyes and the white spot on the wing bow (also called “mirror”) are just as characteristic of the gamecocks of our area.
Therefore, the outer, curved tail feathers of the gamecocks are a popular hat ornament in the Stubaital.
The courtship of the gamecocks is a natural spectacle without equal! The roosters impress with various poses, high fluttering jumps, erect thrust and a very peculiar courtship song. This one is a combination of blowing, hissing and rolling sounds.
“We from the Berg Genuss Hotel Neustift – wish you a fantastic day at the natural venue Hühnerspiel!”
